I am looking for a Project Planner for my client to support a Senior Planner across a programme of construction works within a secure nuclear environment.

The role isn't just about updating programmes. The role involves planning and project controls across multiple workstreams, working closely with engineering, construction, commercial and project-management teams.

It would suit someone with a technical, engineering, construction or project-delivery background who has moved into planning and is looking to develop their experience further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update project programmes using Primavera P6.
  • Monitor progress against programme and support forecasting and reporting.
  • Work with project teams to understand construction sequences, dependencies, interfaces and programme risks.
  • Support the development of tender, pre-construction and delivery programmes.
  • Gather and challenge information from engineering, construction, commercial and project-management teams to ensure programmes reflect the actual project position.
  • Identify delays, constraints and emerging risks, supporting the development of mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Produce planning and project-controls information for project and programme reviews.
  • Coordinate planning across individual projects and workstreams within the wider programme.
  • Develop an understanding of the commercial and contractual implications of programme changes and delays.
  • Provide wider project-delivery support to the Senior Planner and project team as required.

Essential Requirements

  • A few years' relevant experience in planning, project controls, project management or construction delivery.
  • Practical experience using Primavera P6.
  • A good understanding of how construction projects are planned, sequenced and delivered.
  • Ability to work with technical, construction, commercial and project-management teams.
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to identify programme risks, constraints and dependencies.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage directly with project teams, rather than work solely through planning software.
  • An interest in developing broader project-delivery, technical, commercial and project-controls skills.

Candidate Background

  • Candidates from a traditional planning background will be considered, but those who combine practical project experience with planning capability would be particularly relevant.
  • This could include someone who has previously worked in an engineering, technical, supervisory or construction delivery role before moving into planning, project controls or project management.
  • My client is looking for someone with an understanding of how projects are actually delivered, using Primavera P6 to support that process rather than simply maintaining a programme in isolation.

Desirable Experience

  • Building, refurbishment, fit-out, M&E or other complex construction projects.
  • Developing tender or pre-construction programmes.
  • Exposure to project controls, progress measurement and forecasting.
  • Experience within nuclear, defence, regulated or secure environments.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts and the relationship between programme, change and commercial management.

Security Clearance

Existing SC clearance would be an advantage. Candidates without current clearance may also be considered, subject to suitability and the ability to obtain the required clearance.
